The Griots Society of the Gulf Coast MS Gulf Coast Juneteenth Celebration proudly announces Freedom Week 2026: “Resurgence of Black Power, Taking Back Our Communities” a coast-wide series of cultural, educational, and community-focused events taking place throughout June.
Freedom Week 2026 will honor Juneteenth heritage, uplift youth voices, and strengthen community leadership across the Mississippi Gulf Coast through dynamic programming, faith gatherings, career opportunities, and cultural celebrations.

“Sailing Through Coastal Black History: Juneteenth Culture Camp,” an immersive, traveling cultural experience designed to educate, inspire, and empower youth across the region.
Throughout the month of June 2026, the Griots Society will partner with local summer camps and youth organizations to bring engaging, hands-on programming directly to young people across the Gulf Coast. This dynamic culture camp centers on celebrating the rich and often underrepresented history of Black communities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

This meaningful service honors the enduring spiritual legacy of African American communities while commemorating the life and impact of Harry C. Tartt, a respected civil rights leader whose commitment to justice and equality continues to inspire.
The evening will feature Rev. Kordell Sims as the keynote speaker, delivering a message centered on faith, freedom, and collective responsibility. Known for his dynamic preaching and community leadership, Rev. Sims is expected to bring a powerful and timely word.
Attendees will also be uplifted by special guest entertainment from the Koast Konnect Youth Community Choir, whose performances promise to bring energy, inspiration, and a celebration of culture through music.

Designed to inspire and empower the next generation, the expo will connect teens with a diverse range of career pathways through interactive vendor experiences, a dynamic panel discussion, and hands-on learning opportunities. The event is part of the community’s broader Juneteenth celebration, honoring freedom while investing in the future of local youth.
The expo will feature 30–40 vendors representing industries such as healthcare, finance, education, skilled trades, and public service. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with professionals, participate in interactive activities, and explore real-world career options.
A highlight of the event will be a youth-centered panel featuring young professionals from across the Gulf Coast who will share their career journeys, challenges, and advice for success. The program will also include a “Career Passport Challenge,” encouraging participants to visit booths, ask questions, and fully engage with each opportunity presented.

Rooted in the spirit of Juneteenth, the State of the Community serves as a powerful platform for reflection, recognition, and meaningful dialogue—bringing together residents, leaders, and changemakers to explore the current realities and future possibilities of minority communities along the Gulf Coast.
This year’s featured conversation reflects an expanded and dynamic approach, pairing public leadership with community-based impact. Panelist will engage in a candid and solutions-focused dialogue addressing disparities in economic opportunity, education, healthcare, and small business development—while emphasizing the importance of civic engagement and voter participation ahead of the November election.
The evening will begin with a curated opening program, including remarks from organizational leadership, a powerful artistic presentation, and the Juneteenth Community Awards Ceremony, honoring individuals and organizations whose contributions continue to shape and uplift the Gulf Coast.

Designed as a vibrant fusion of culture, creativity, and nightlife, Culture & Cocktails celebrates the spirit of Juneteenth through live music, spoken word, and a curated marketplace of local artists and designers.
The evening will be hosted by poet Lady Fly, featuring live performances, along with a live DJ to carry the energy throughout the night.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore a selection of local vendors, including painters, fashion designers, and jewelry creators, offering unique, handcrafted items that reflect the richness of Gulf Coast talent.

Culture & Cocktails Admission
General admission tickets are $25, which include one cash pot raffle ticket and $5 specialty drinks from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, featuring three custom cocktails created exclusively for the event by Euphoria Lounge.
